Tampa Atheists Comment Despite City Council Objections

Postby Rob Curry on February 4th, 2010, 3:14 pm

Council Chair Thomas Scott (who is also the Dr. Rev. Thomas Scott, senior pastor at the 34th Street Church of God), objects when atheists make an encore appearance during the latest public comments before the Tampa City Council. This forces the issue to be discussed by members of the Council and the city attorney. The attorney confirmed that the invocation is an agenda item, though not a "legislative" agenda item.

As it turned out, no one wanted to speak on agenda items, so we were heard first after all. Here is the breaking story by St. Petersburg Times reporter Janet Zink:

Atheists object again to Tampa City Council prayer

There will also be an interview broadcast on ABC Acton News (Channel 28).

"It it wasn't for prayer we wouldn't be here". These were the words spoken by the gentleman that spoke at the city council meeting that supported the councils' position of prayer. I certainly don't follow that logic.

Someone should have informed the people of Haiti. There CAN NOT be a god that would do that to some of the poorest people on the planet!

I hope he's praying to stay here but I don't think it's going to work. I could be wrong!
If Heaven is so great, why are THEY still here?
